Thanks everyone, I deleted the Adobe I had and downloaded the latest version which now seems to do the job.

I also went and got the Foxit one (thanks Bill D) which works exceptionally well on download pdfs.

Well hopefully now I can try and settle down with this new Dell and get back to some semblance of normality :-)
