Jeanette was indeed a national treasure, and will be missed by all those who loved the Carter Family, and the Carter Fold which she so lovingly ran for many years. She took the project on, with virtually no resources as a promise to her father, A.P., on his deathbed. This past fall Jeanette received a National Heritage Award (the Bess Lomax Hawes award) for her contributions to traditional music and came to Washington where she was treated royally by the NEA and appeared at the annual Heritage Awards concert. Her son, Jett, with several others, performed Carter Family tunes on the concert. Farewell Jeanette - your family's music and spirit will live forever.
