I think there are a couple of reasons. One is that he does not understand life very well, how people manage, because he has huge misunderstoods about words and ideas. He decided somewhere in his life to say to hell with words and ideas, it's reality and action that counts. Unfortunately, he lives in a culture of ideas which define lessons and principles about action and he never figured out what those were all about.

The second reason is that he has been pretty short of first-hand experience even though he has lived as many ticks as anyone else. He has veered away, steered away, backed off and fended off from any really challenging emotional or intellectual challenge, in my opinion.
