Subject: BS: Do you like this new 'pro' hockey?
Y'all, I am really angry down here in Hockeytown South about this so-called "new" NHL. As some of you know, I love hockey, and especially my Detroit Red Wings. My wife, Kelly, and I were fortunate to be able to see the Wings play the Stars over in Dallas yesterday and I think she's madder than I am. When the game ended in a 1-1 tie, and one five-minute overtime period rendered no goals, they went to a "shoot-out." Kelly looked at me and asked me what-the-hell was going on and I explained the "shoot-out" policy to her. As she said to me - they don't do it in baseball, they don't do it in basketball and they don't do it in football - why do they do it in hockey?

She's right, you know. If the same approach was applied to those other sports, say in baseball - when you got through nine innings and the game was tied you go to a homerun derby; say in basketball - when you get done with four periods and the game is tied you go to a free-throw contest; say in football - when you get done with four quarters
and the game is tied you go to a field goal kicking contest.

I didn't pay money to see a damned shootout, I PAID TO SEE A HOCKEY GAME! LET THEM PLAY HOCKEY. What's wrong with doing five-minute overtime sudden death periods until someone scores. I want to start a write-in protest to get the NHL to change back to playing hockey.
The media tell us that the fans LOVE the shoot-out; well, I AM A FAN,
AND I HATE THE SHOOT-OUT! I also hate it that the Wings only get down here two times a year instead of four - but that's another issue.
What do you think?
