Thread Name: Lyr Req: Over the Silent Sea
Subject: Lyr Add: SILENT SEA (from Ward Family, 1940)
Here's my attempt at transcribing the sound file from The Library of Congress American Memory Collection / Voices from the Dust Bowl. There are some gaps and uncertainties.
THE SILENT SEA
As sung by the Ward Family, 1940.
1. I have a mansion, over yonder, I know,
Where chilly winds never go.
The sweetest flowers just grow.
There's where you'll find me when I've finished below,
For I move over the silent sea.
CHORUS: Safely I ride 'cross the waters so wide
For when Jesus died,
His precious blood ... supplied (?)
There for the sake
I shall forever abide, hallelujah,
Over the silent sea.
2. Soon I shall bid my friends and loved ones goodbye.
... I shall fly
With angels up to the sky.
There I will join a host of singers on high
And walk the streets of pure gold
With Him in heaven, I am told. CHORUS
REPEAT VERSE 2 AND CHORUS.
