A few Catters have PMed or emailed me to ask how the clinical trials (generally) went, so I thought I'd put a thread up about it for those who are interested.
As some of you will remember, I was diagnosed with bone cancer just before Easter last year. I volunteered to go on a clinical trial involving stem cell therapy and T-cells. Thankfully I came through relatively unscathed and assumed the stem cells had done their stuff.
I had a follow up today and was told that only 3 volunteers had come through, out of an initial 50. 2 had left the course and there is no information about them. The oncologists say that they think the 3 lucky ones had simply gone into remission and it had nothing to do with the trials.
They are reviewing the data they have received but they think it unlikely that more trials will be carried out for this particular form of cancer.
Isn't it sad that so much hope and research (OK, and money)went into this project, to have hopes dashed at this stage?
