Subject: BS: New TV Trends in Crimefighting
Watched a show last night called "NUMB3RS". They solve crimes with math. (Shouldn't this be an after-school program on PBS?)
A few years ago there were a lot of shows with psychologists and profilers, looking for serial killers and other criminals; Cracker (the British one) was the best of these.... So Psychology was sexy!
Then the crop of CSI-type shows, solving crimes with with their advanced chemistry and mass spectrometers and tight-shirted, big boobed blonde model/lab-workers... And lab-work was sexy!
Now this show. A couple of child prodigy mathematics and statistics nerds helps the FBI solve and prevent crimes... So now mathematics is sexy!
What's next?
* The CIA has a secret group of young and beautiful surfing/snow-boarding English professors slaving away at parsing sentences and checking spelling and verb tense to expose secret terrorist cells working towards the next 9/11?... Grammar is sexy!
* A radical play-by-their-own-rules group of young bikini-clad librarians who are also part-time models solve cold case files from years ago by checking into old records of borrowed library books?... The Dewey Decimal System is sexy!
* Or a handful of misfit students in the chess club and A/V club at a small midwestern highschool compine their talents to uncover radical religious anti-government sects controlled by the extra-terrestrial Anti-Christ by checking through discarded video tapes and transcipts of famous chess games between Russian and western masters?... Nerdiness is sexy!
But hey, I'm not complaining. At least it's a show that somebody's actually written, produced and acted in to tell an actual story, unlike the crop of "reality" shows and pop-singing contests with unnecessarily cruel critiquing currently littering the dial.
