Thread Name: Advertising as threads?
Subject: RE: Advertising as threads?
Which ad thread are you referring to, Mo?
When it's advertising that has nothing to do with music and if it comes from somebody who has nothing to do with Mudcat, we call it Spam and delete it. There was a Spam thread up earlier today, and that may be what motivated you to start this thread. The thread was deleted quite quickly, before I got up this morning (hey, I'm in California...)
Generally, we leave music stuff up to on the Forum Menu, and we encourage gig and CD announcements, announcing musician job opportunities, selling guitars, and the like. When people from outside our community drop in just to sell their wares, that's another matter, especially if their music isn't folk music. For non-music selling, that goes down on the bottom half of the Forum Menu, and it's generally reserved for members of our community. If you're a Mudcat regular and do handicrafts or want to sell a Morris Minor or a canoe, I can't see anything wrong with posting something about that once in a while.
If your business is multi-level marketing or if you're starting self-promotion threads several times a week, that's another matter.
