I knew a ship's officer once who married and had two kids with a gal, and later decided he needed a sex-change operation to become the owman he had always been inside, and he did. (S)he brieflyu became a cause celebre in the transgender world, writing a book about it and so on. But then he took up with another woman and lived as a lesbian. Never heard how that turened out; but was it a gay relationship? Or, if birth sex is irrevocable, was it merely a heterosexual affair using unusual commercially provided equipment?
