Just so's you know, the city has been deliriously happy for the past week.
The madness began on Saturday, I was down on the strip district, home of several fine grocery emporiums. The stores were empty. Everyone was after the street vendors buying Steeler tee shirts, hats, earrings, scarves, etc. One vendor had Steeler confetti cannons and was firing them into the street.
On my way to church on Sunday, I passed a woman scolding her son for going out without his Steeler gear on. Several people in church were wearing Steeler jerseys, sweatshirts, scarves and buttons.
As of Monday the town was walking on air.
On Tuesday there was a welcome home parade downtown. Most of the city was on hand to greet the returning team. It was a happy greeting. Nothing was damaged. No fights, or other stupidity, just much madness.
As of today, there is still a brisk business in tee shirts. Everyone still has their Steeler caps, jackets, shirts, buttons, etc. on, and there's a house down on Roslyn Street displaying a giant black and gold banner declaring the Steelers superbowl champions. I didn't watch the game either. But I am enjoying the festivities.
