It's what would be expected, and not too surprising even given the date. My only intent with the quote was that some who may have only heard the "Hitler was an atheist mad killer" side of history might realize that even after the fighting started the Germans considered themselves still "devout." The clip is fairly typical of news that was reaching the US around that time.
