Thread Name: BS: Variations on Valentines Day
Subject: RE: BS: Variations on Valentines Day
As a lifelong batchelor (though I've had my moments) I have generally seen the day as being another of the manufactured festivals in aid of the greetings card industry. Course this may be one of the reasons I am a batchelor.

I suppose that leaves me in the none of the above camp too. Some of those who suffer from romance rather than enjoying it might see it as smugness, but I don't.

Only V/Day anecdote I can offer is from about 20 years ago. A recently married pair friends took me out for a meal as thanks for something. We wondered why a usually quiet restaurant was so busy, and why a request for a table for three seemed to surprise the staff. The penny finally dropped when the little guy selling single roses at even more outrageous prices than usual forgot all his normal patter and just stood mouthing silent astonishment at us.

A good night, and I guess it might qualify as a variation?
