No it's not!    ........ it's only nine years and a few months. I'll still accept it as a decade even if it's not strictly correct.

The point is, the first decade of the twentieth century was known by a name associated with something other than a clumsy attempt to identify the years themselves. I think we will probably end up with something similar this century.
