Thread Name: BS: Photography
Subject: RE: BS: Photography
it used to be my profession.
but got sick of it for various reasons and give it up about 8 years ago.
especially grew to hate darkrooms and wet chemical processing..
..and most of the people i associated with in fashion and marketing were complete ****s.

however, at that time i was sufficiently convinced of the potential
of photoshop and the hideously expensive primitive 1st generation digital camera backs [studio large format 5x4/10x8,
to keep an open mind about starting up in photography again
at some point in the future when the technology
had matured
and become equal image quality to film and at a low enough price to be accessable
to a mass market..

.. which seems to be just about right now..

so earlier this month i ventured into a local high st shop Jessops to check out prices and equipment.

The biggest unexpexted difficulty is how much knowledge i have forgotten.
sadly its true, 'if you dont use it you lose it'

i've genuinely forgotten more than most people ever knew about the subject..

[also an element of deliberately erasing bad memories of people and studios etc, compounding the problem]

.. but on the other hand.. could be positive
because it gives opportunity for a new fresh start.

and anyway, most of what i've forgotten has been made redundant
by new technology.

oh.. and the serious disapointment..

my well looked after near mint nikons which always held a good high resale and trade in price..
guaranteed good investment..
are now worth fuck all..

new digital technology and ebay have rendered them almost worthless..

so my expectations of selling them to finance purchase of a new nikon digital slr
were quickly shattered by cruel reality..

maybe i'll have to sell a few guitars instead..

whatever, if i do start up again,
photograpphy will be a functional 'in-house'tool
to enhance and promote my music projects.
