What Rap said. Juneau is deeply polarized in its view toward industrial tourism. A great many of our 't-shirt shops' have absentee owners and are boarded up over winter. The cruiselines now have their own shops that compete directly with locals. Our sidewalks (narrow) are clogged with thousands of swarming, jostling tourists that on any given day outnumber locals by three to one. They act as though they were in Disneyland and we were local color provided by their tour dollars.

On the other hand, there are also dozens of tourists who are genuinely interested and appreciative of this little town set in these mountains by the ocean.
