Don't matter what folks think about it if you want to write. As Ted said above, even bad songs can be 'carried off' on stage. If you want to write, write.
I wrote over three hundred before I got one I wanted to keep. I kept it for all of two months or so and then threw it out. If you are starting to write, then you had better believe that your songs are good. If YOU don't believe that, quit now. Truth is--for writers--everybody's a critic. Write a few hundred and I would really like to know how many you decide to keep. Of the first 500 or so, I may have three or four left that I thought had the merit I wanted them to have. I've also had a few folks say they 'like' this or that. However, if I ain't one of those folks, the song goes.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that YOU have to believe in YOURSELF, because most beginning writers ain't got too many other people who believe in them. Hang tough and hang in.
