About as significant as the difference between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland, Black and White in the USA or Jews and Arabs in the Holy Land.

In other words, the actual religious (or physical) differences aren't significant, but they mark out different groups which have a history of oppression/repression/rivalry/antagonism.
