If a woman drives a car through the garage door she's a "typical dumb blonde woman driver". If a man does it he's an idiot, but there's no implicit statement about men in general.

An interesting distinction. But it doesn't take long and the implicit statement does in fact become "typical dumb bloke". My impressionis that there are in fact a lot of younger people who do in fact buy into that, not just girls either, and it lies at the root of a whole set of things going wrong.
