Thread Name: Help: Jug of Punch query-Kerry Pippin?
Subject: RE: JUG OF PUNCH QUERY
The last verse in the DT version varies by one line with the one sung around my locality

And when I'm dead and in my grave
No costly tombstone will I have,
*I'll dig a grave both wide and deep*
With a jug of punch at my head and feet.

it goes:

And when I'm dead and in my grave
No costly tombstone will I have,
*Just lay me down in my native peat*
With a jug of punch at my head and feet.

I feel this may be the original line, as 'peat' rhymes with 'feet', whereas 'deep' doesn't.

Also the DT verse doesn't make any sense,

'And when I'm dead and in my grave' followed by 'I'll dig a grave both wide and deep'!

How does one achieve this??
