Thread Name: No folk clubs in East Leeds
Subject: RE: No folk clubs in East Leeds
Scholes, Barwick, and Thorner have all been past venues for Folk Clubs. Not been over that way for some years now. But the Club seemed to do quite well although the club in the end did move to Thorner. I can't remember the reasons for the moves but the Club seemed to be best place in Scholes. In a Pub restaurant again whose name I can't remember but it had an Old Railway Carriage as part of the Restaurant. The Folk Clubs, closure I believe, came about when Brian the organizer moved away to North Yorkshire. The last I saw of him was when he was running a Folk Night at the Saltersgate about once a month.
I lost track of Brian after that when it closed due to a change of management of the Saltersgate. Things change, as do Licensees and the in case of the Saltersgate the Folk Friendly Landlord moved back about five years ago. So perhaps the same thing has happened around East Leeds. I don't hold up much hope for one in Crossgates however as most Pub's are likely to be a bit rowdy to say the least.
