I also really like "Danny Boy" if sung well--with both verses. The picture of somebody dear to the singer looking down on his grave really gets me.

Just heard a really sad bluegrass song--Slippers with Wings. It's solidly in the tradition of the 19th century parlor songs--and really affecting.
