Sounds like a US Problem to me. Here in the UK, I've used three different ride on mowers, on an area of grass totalling about an acre. I've never heard of fires in the mower.

Of course this is Britian, where more than a few inches is far too long for grass, and the problem is trying to find a time when it's dry enough to mow....
