Thread Name: Boat Band on ITV Tonight(Maybe?)
Subject: Boat Band on ITV Tonight(Maybe?)
Well, on waterworld tonight at 7.30PM there is an item on the launch of the rebuilt Shroppie flyboat Saturn. Now, I'm not sure if this is just central ITV or nationwide. Anyway, I'm credibly informed it is going to be on, and the Bat band were definitely there and being filmed. Mind you, the actual boat being launched is liable to feature more heavily than a fiddle and accordeon combo, but who knows. If you see a flashy saxophone outfit, thats not us, that's Davwe Hiett and the Weevils, upstaging us with their shiny instruments.
But credit where credit's due, the star of the piece(which everyone should watch) is Saturn in all its magnificence. A complete rebuild by master wooden boatbuilder Malcolm Webster (also a fine 5-wtring banjo player). It took him three years I think. The paint job on the boat, immaculate as ever, by legendary folk-art historian Tony Lewery(also an excellent washboard player). In fact, a big chunk of the boat/music fraternity were there. A moment of canal history to savour, even if the Boat Band has ended on the cutting-room floor.
