The cyles of the moon have long been associated with human fertility. On the face of the full moon it is possible to "see" a picture of a hare carrying an egg which symbolically heralds the new cyle of life that comes with the Spring. The Moon Goddess is named Eostre - in order to subvert this festival the Christian religion simply took it over - so hurrah for the survival of the Easter bunny and eggs!
