After a year and a half of negotiating with management, my union (The CPSU - Community and Public Sector Union) has finally won a new working condition to be entered into our workplace CA (Certified Agreement) - conception leave.

We have had first maternity leave, then parental leave, but with workplace stresses and diminishing entitlements to paid overtime and increasing shift work, workers at my workplace have finally bargained to achieve conception leave. Using research demonstrating a shrinking population and increasing costs of childcare, management has finally been convinced that conception leave will assist maintain Australia's population and create new workers to share the tax burden of the future.
