This bit I remember John Hartford dong one day out on the Mississippi River:

I thought of it after a long time--maybe 'cause I recently heard of an almost long lost book by Jack Kerouac that just came out. It's supposed to be a great one---after all this time! The name of it is "The Book Of Sketches" --- circa 1952 to 1954. Said to be prose---but sings like the best poetry. I'm looking forward to finding this one!!
