Thread Name: New 'Radio Ballads' on BBC
Subject: RE: New 'Radio Ballads' on BBC
I have really been enjoying these, and I am capturing the last of them today-- ships.

They format reminds me of Studs Terkel's books about the realities of people in the working life (in the US), with the effect of the period still pictures on our show "Biography" but via song instead of images. A fine, fine use of the medium, and a wonderful window in on those aspects of life across the Pond that they have portrayed.

I've appreciated people's comments about them, and they give me hope that I may have hold of something at least fairly accurate.

If they were to extend the series, what aspects of UK life ought they to cover, for a more complete picture of life as you know it?

It's very humbling, for me as a USer, to realize the detailed extent of what I don't know about your lives. Maybe these Radio Ballads will leave me a bit less ignorant-- I hope so, anyway. I hope they make me a better friend to those of you who have extended your friendship to me.
