Les, Its a bit like the guy on the caravan site who buys a gas bottle.
he asks how long it will last and the man says, well if you don't use it - it will last forever.
they wouldn't do operatons on my wife before she was 40, they said the joints thay had then wouldn't last that long and they weren't confident of being able to replace them. so by the time they did the first hip -the femur has smashed a hole in the sacrum and it needed, all kinds of prosthesis.
Since then we know younger people who have had the surgery - so I guess they must be more confident about the length of time they will last and replacing them.
The point is though your artificial joint will last longer if you're not planning on doing marathons on it or playing football. By the time Denise got hers , it was just bloody fantatstic for her to be able to go shopping on her own. She still feels that way about the independence that two hip joints, two knee joints and two fused ankles have given her.
