It is a strange expression "The end of the World".

I guess what we really mean is the death of most people and the collapse of industrial and agricultural societies perhaps leaving a small number to return to hunting and gathering.

All we need is accelerated global warming leading to sea rise and the swamping of farm land and a failuer to deal with the AIDS pandemic and we will be gone. We might return to agriculture and later metals and so on but maybe not.

The planet, its plants and creatures will continue to evolve without us for around 4 billion years when the sun explodes and fries the lot!
