Sonnet 02/12/05                               MXXXV

Can heart ask reason for a night without
The moon, or stars, or her? Can heart know why
All is now dark and cold? It dreams about
Past hopes, but can heart find cause not to cry?
Will vision give sight of a dawn, or show
The path to heart's desire? Only in dreams
Does hope in absence of any chance grow,
And can dreams make fate other than it seems?
Is there even the shadow of a chance
That she might yet smile send? Should heart pretend
I do not care, when dream all hopes advance?
How can I longings for muse ever end?
Even my dreams need her smile to be whole:
What is the power she has over soul?
