Ballad (14)

Should mage offer this muse his kiss
In thanks for her sweet smile?
Dare he lips touch? Do his dreams miss
A sign she'd hopes revile?

He offers all to one who cares,
But does she want his heart?
Might dreams be all that mage now shares,
Hopes all that inspire art?

Yet, her eyes offer more than dream:
They show concern, and soul.
The promise of her smile would seem
To make shattered heart whole.

She is far more than center of
Desires, dreams, and thought:
One of the few that mage might love,
She has his passions caught.

Mage is now bound, but does not seek
To break from muse's spell.
Years have made him foolish, or weak:
That he should her hold tell.

True vision sees what is not there:
But what may one day be.
For now, enough that she might care:
Fears do not set heart free.
