He is testing the possible rudeness of the response not the stupidity of the question. The possible rudeness of the response will determine if someone thought it a stupid question. But them thinking it a stupid question should not warrant a rude response. But by them posting a rude response to what they percieve as a stupid question will expose that unintentional stupidity is sometimes met with rudeness......I think.
