Ive just read this thread - thank you for that freda. I can't say that I agree with you though. All my life I have been driven by a competitive streak - right back to being about six and waiting in line for an injection. The kid in front made such a fuss getting his that I vowed not to make any fuss at all.

I think that it is necessary to recognise the trait and use it in a positive manner. If a competitve streak can help us become better at any particular subject that's good but then I think that we need to use that ability to help or encourage others in the same way, if they want that help. That way everybody wins. I tend to get embarrassed when I have 'won' anything or when I'm given praise for something someone thinks I have done well. Doesn't stop me wanting to get better at anything though!
