What is here now is a destructive Fundamentalist view of theology embracing the Manichean notions of an Anti-Christ that threatens the rational world and will lead to more war.

Unfortuantely this view has permeated (poisoned the well) of our US government undermining democracy and the First Amendment. I recommend everyone read Kevin Phillip's "American Theocracy" for a lucid understanding of this issue.
