If you grow radii you do have to make sure that no one sneaks over your garden wall and steals them for their pregnant wife - because then tradition insists you take their newborn and lock her in a tower without any doors. a major pain.

and now for some food content. We had this over Easter weekend.

Bacon Wrapped Radichio with gorgonzola brulee:

sweat bacon strips until they just begin to colour, but are nowhere near crisp. reserve. Cut two heads of radichio in half pole to pole, and saute cut face down in the bacon grease until the cut faces begin to color up. cool. cut in half again. Any leaves that fall or break off the outside can be bundled together to form additional pieces. (I ended up with ten bundles from 8 quarter heads)

Wrap bacon firmly around radichio. Put in a baking pan and bake at 350 until the bacon begins to crisp. slice gorgonzola and lay on each bcon bundle. broil or bake until cheese melts.
