By the way, the comb binding on the new edition is a good idea. You can open it up and it lies flat rather than trying to flop shut. The one I have is (im)perfect bound, it doesn't like to stay open, and the pages are starting to come unglued. I'm going to have to run all 400-some-odd pages through my 3-hole punch and put it into a three-ring binder before I start losing pages.

I've grown very fond of comb or spiral bindings for music books. They lay flat and don't fight you. Frederick Noad's guitar technique books are excellent, but you have to nail them to a table or tie them to a music stand with a couple of strong cords to keep the damned things from flopping shut while you're trying to practice.
