I think it came from some drunk guy who wandered into the hockey arena from a local porno emporium where he had been sitting with his hat on his lap. As he walked down an aisle, his hat slipped off the "hook" on his lap which was now a vertical lap so to speak. The goalie was distracted when the hat fell to the floor allowing the third goal to be scored. The goalie objected to the point saying it was unfair because of the guy doing the hat trick in the aisle.
