Broad brushstrokes have to be the rule if trying to categorise such a wide range as the different styles of music, while maintaining a small-enough number of categories for people to use the system.

In one record shop I visited the categories were so broad that a disc of renaissance dance music came in the "nostalgia" section. Some folks have looong memories.
