Progressives compassionate? Maybe...with other people's money. They are also self centered wimps who, when they cannot win at the ballot box (abortion, smoking etc, political correctness) go to the courts to get their way. If someone doesn't agree with their position they impute evil intentions to the dissenter; a conservative is never just wrong, but venal. A generalization? Yeah...but if the shoe fits.

A few years ago I read somewhere no, I cannot remember where, that Conservatives gave more charity than progressives, and that in states that had larger welfare programs, and concommitantly higher state and local taxes, people were less personally charitable. Maybe some food for thought there.
