There isn't a thoroughly satisfactory word. Kaleea is right about 'classical', and it's the word people usually use, knowing roughly what they mean.

Alternatives are 'art music' and 'serious music', which both have advantages and disadvantages. The downside of 'classical' is that it also refers to that period around 1750 - c.1820.
