Rememeber the old backups to NORAD? 48 bit machines, BUICK-3 or some such?

They had to be operational at all times, but were never used unless NORAD's prime system went down. So, operators got to program whatever they wanted, to make sure they were running ok ( easy enough to dump the load and reset with the operational software) The control console had a tone generator, to generate test tones, so.... First time I ever heard computer generated music.

The point is, I have to be here, the lines have to be up, I have to stay awake, and Mudcat is safer for my job than some of the other sites I could be visiting...
