A severe turn to the side: I know of an Amish family in Ohio (your neighborhood, Spaw?) who put a box of kittens alongside the road with a sign saying "Free Kittens".

They got no takers, so the next day they changed the sign to "Amish Kittens, Free!" All of the kittens were gone in a day.

(Or so the story goes...)
