I suspect that folksinging is akintotimetraveling in some respects. It expands the dimesnions beyond the normal boundaries of a signle lifetime and fleshes out the gray sketches of the past provided by dry histories. This adds wealth to the living of a life, and a sense of depth and meaning to the sometimes ordinary business of living. Thus, more freedom.
