Peace asks, Are we sure it's OK to be talking about numismatics on this thread? Like, is it a socially acceptable thing to discuss in public? I have the same question about philatelism. Just doesn't seem RIGHT somehow . . . .

I do not know the answer, but I do know that the correct word for the study, classification, and collecting of stamps, postal stationery, and postal history is philately, not philatelism.
