As about the magic having gone: I 'll have to differ with you and Homeless on this; what magic I have found in Mudcat has been "brought in" by others. So from time to time the offerings might not have been to my taste (but much of the time they are). And some of that magic is of the lasting kind (witness several unions of 'Catters).

It might not have been the original intention, but (for me) Mudcat is more than simply a tool like the DT or a forum to post questions to and receive erudite answers. I treat it as a community of real people, a geographically dispersed village, with its village fools and argumentative types, its experts and its pontificators, and its workaday "salt of the earth"'s. It has many inhabitants with whom I might disagree from time to time - but plenty with whom I agree and several firm friends that I have made because I met them here.

So it has already played a significant role in my personal life, and that "magic" can never been taken away, even if it shuts down tomorrow.
