Blocking IPs as a means of keeping people out of the forum won't work. The simple technology to get around that is easily and readily available all over the web.

But one thing the luddites here have never understood, which explains everything. You don't get a good forum by blocking IPs and having an in-group play internet nanny. You get it by having mature adults policing one another, and keeping the forum on-topic.

That isn't a cure-all, because all web forums and groups have personality conflicts, get dull after a certain amount of over-use, and finally a shelf life.

If someone shut this forum down tomorrow and was willing to create a valuable digital collection with accompanying music information archive out of DT & the music posts, I'd be all for it.

The real value of Mudcat isn't the community. It is the DT and music expertise in what now would be a very small percentage of the posts.

Problem is, the current regulars see it the other way around. They consider themselves to be the more important resource. Ass backwards, IMO.
