Solid bodies capped in maple can be dramatically different in tone than the same design in other woods. I've a solid body bass guitar (5 string fretless Godin) that has a nicer tone than my other basses (Warwick and Ernie Ball). That won't be entirely the maple as pickups, strings, wiring, etc also figure into the equation, but I've very often preferred maple capped axes so there might be something to it.
