Have you actually heard the Colbert correspondents' dinner speech? I have, and especially the early part was just hilarious.

Observations such as:

I'm so honored to be here--I can't believe it. I think I'm dreaming Somebody please shake me. Actually I'm a sound sleeper--somebody shoot me in the face.

The media is all liberally biased --except Fox News. Fox News gives both sides of every issue--the president's side and the vice president's side

I'm with the president--I believe the best government is the one that governs least. By that standard we've created a wonderful government in Iraq.


And so on. It's certainly possible that Cohen doesn't have much of a sense of humor.   Maybe he's heard too many after-dinner speakers.


It's also possible that some writers overreacted to what Cohen wrote. But to extrapolate from this that 2008 will be 1968 redux--that could only be done by a columnist desperate for a column---and only believed by credulous Bushites.
