Gurney - does applauding solos bother you that much? It's just a way of showing appreciation for a wonderful bit of improvisation and it's not usually "politeness" but genuine involvement. Surely we can't really complain about others being intolerant of the quirks related to folk performance if we're intolerant of the quirks of other genres?
