Thread Name: Orig: Brothers in York (tune)
Subject: RE: Orig: Brothers in York (tune)
It's in the Welch family manuscript of circa 1800, held in the collection of the Sussex Archaeological Society in Lewes, Sussex. The family lived in Bosham, West Sussex. The tune was included in 'A Sussex Tune Book' edited by Vic Gammon and Anne Loughran and published by the EFDSS in 1982, with music drawn by Martin Carthy. All the tunes in it came from Sussex manuscript sources. It's out of print but may reappear.

This tune and many others can be found on the Lewes Arms Folk Club website in midi, Noteworthy Composer and abc: go to http://members.aol.com/lewesarmsfolk/Lewesfav.html and follow the links.

You'll also find details of the Lewes Favourites tune book, which includes it with 179 other tunes popular in local English sessions.
